BRASS BARREL Antique T. KETLAND & Co. .56 Conversion Pistol w/ALLPORT LOCK
EARLY 1800s Era MANSTOPPER Flintlock to PERCUSSION
Description: BRASS BARREL Antique T. KETLAND & Co. .56 Conversion Pistol w/ALLPORT LOCK EARLY 1800s Era MANSTOPPER Flintlock to PERCUSSION Here we present an antique Ketland & Co./Allport marked Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1816 to 1823 in London, England. This example would have started out life as a flintlock and converted sometime after the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced. William Allport was a lock maker between the years of 1807 and 1823. Allport-marked Ketland locks are found during the years of 1816 and 1823. Thomas Ketland & Co. was a firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England somewhere around 1760. Thomas Ketland Sr. was a highly successful Birmingham gunmaker. He started his business around 1760 and expanded into the export market around 1790. He died in 1816. The business carried on until bankruptcy in 1821. The company manufactured flintlock pistols, becoming quite successful in its field. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. This pistol could have possibly belonged to a military officer during this period. The barrel is round with a beautiful full-length walnut stock, and the engravings on the brass are reserved yet handsome. If only this gun could tell us some stories. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid wood throughout with average handling wear. Markings are sharp. Post-1813 Birmingham proofs. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8-1/8 inches. Caliber: .56 Percussion Conversion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #247233 SOLD Antique: Yes |
