c1770 FRENCH CHARLEVILLE Flintlock Pistol .62 Gendarmerie Napoleon
Antique Sidearm for France’s Maréchaussée
Description: c1770 FRENCH CHARLEVILLE Flintlock Pistol .62 Gendarmerie Napoleon Antique Sidearm for France’s Maréchaussée Here we present an antique French Charleville Model 1770 Gendarmerie Pistol, made at the armory at Charleville circa the 1770s. This would have been a sidearm for what would essentially be a national police force (Maréchaussée) in the country which acted as an armed guard for royalty as well as a force for maintaining law and order in the countryside. This was a tumultuous time in France. For context, in 1774 King Louis XVI was seated on the throne. In 1789, the French Revolution began and chaos ensued for the next 10 years, characterized by insurrections, mob violence, execution and assassination. The King was executed in 1793. Simultaneously, France was at war with much of Europe. Eventually, Napoleon Bonaparte rose out of the ranks through coup and became emperor, beginning a whole new set of worldwide wars and unrest at home. The overall condition is good. Patina throughout. The markings are clear. The top of the barrel is marked “1770”. The lock is marked by the armory. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock has an old chip at the toe and is otherwise in good condition, showing use. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .62 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1900 #227921 SOLD Antique: Yes |
