Full-Sized Martial Flintlock Sidearm

Here we present an antique French Flintlock Horse Pistol by Valet, made circa the 18th Century.

Like the cavalry pistols from other nations such as Britain and Italy, this was a large, single shot pistol with a brass pommel that could be used as a club when the single shot was expended. The barrel is a little better than 13 ½ inches long and features a low profile front sight. The carved stock and the brass hardware, including the mask pommel cap sets this piece apart.

The overall condition is good. Excellent action. The bore is smooth and in good shape for its age. Solid stock/grip, nicely carved. Two repaired small cracks, one at the right side of the front ramrod pin, and the other on the right side of the grip, are stable.
