CASED Antique BRITISH SUPERPOSED .36 Cal. Swivel Barrel PERCUSSION Pistol
ENGRAVED Mid-1800s ENGLISH DERINGER Pocket Pistol
Description: CASED Antique BRITISH SUPERPOSED .36 Cal. Swivel Barrel PERCUSSION Pistol ENGRAVED Mid-1800s ENGLISH DERINGER Pocket Pistol Here we present an antique Cased and Engraved British Superposed Swivel Barrel Folding Trigger Percussion Deringer Pistol made circa the mid-1800s likely in Birmingham, England. Deringers of all sorts had by then become a common mode of pocket-sized firepower, though small revolvers were quickly eclipsing the single shot design. H.F. Wheeler was the man responsible for this design, which featured superposed double barrels that swiveled to access the next shot. From the time that firearms were introduced, gunsmiths had experimented with various ways to turn those single shot weapons into multi-shot weapons. Prior to the use of “repeating” arms, one of the most successful systems was to use multiple barrels, each with their own load and charge. In Great Britain many pocket pistols were produced with two or four barrels, and sometimes even more. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a dark gray patina. The wooden grip is in good shape with wear from use evident. The bores are in good shape for age. The action is strong. Here is a very neat little self-defense pistol from 19th Century England! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 1-3/4 inches. Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
