Offered here for sale and just acquired among a collection of Indo Persian firearms and edged weapons is this classic Albanian “rat-tail” flintlock (or more often “miquelet lock”) pistol. The “rat-tail” pistol is a type of muzzle-loading handgun often described as having a slender, tapered or “rat-tail” butt / stock. Its graceful, narrow outline made it easy to carry.
Mechanically, many of these pistols used a Miquelet lock, a type of flint-against-steel ignition widely used in Mediterranean/Eastern-Europe firearms.
