Made Mid-19th Century in LIEPZIG, GERMANY!
Description: ENGRAVED & SILVER INLAID Antique J.D. MORITZ .42 Caliber Percussion PISTOL Made Mid-19th Century in LIEPZIG, GERMANY! Here we present an antique Engraved and Silver Inlaid J.D. Moritz Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s in Liepzig, Germany. The Moritz family has a long history of gunmaking dating back to the 17th Century. The earliest gunmaking Moritz was Heinrich of Kassel in Hesse, Germany. He lived from 1615 to 1668 and was the great, great, great grandfather of Johann Daniel (J.D.) Moritz who was born on January 17, 1776 in Zella St. Blasii and died on December 19, 1855. J.D. Moritz was a Journeyman Gunmaker in 1805 and founded his own business in 1813. His second son, Friedrich Wilhelm Moritz carried on his father’s business after he passed away in 1855. This pistol features a 9-inch octagonal, Damascus barrel in .42 caliber. The stock has a fluted grip and is full-length, tipped in horn. Gorgeous Germanic scrollwork on the German silver hardware as well as the lock. Single set trigger. Target sights. The top of the barrel, inlaid in silver reads, “MADE EXPRESSLY FOR C.Y.E. BARTHOLD BY J.D. MORITZ, SON LEIPSICK”. The overall condition is near fine. Original patina. Excellent action (set trigger). The bore shows good rifling with a patina. This example sports a solid stock/grip with less than expected handling/storage wear. Both the lock and hammer are sharply engraved. Damascus barrel. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches. Caliber: .42 percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
