EUROPEAN Antique ENGRAVED Large Bore “Manstopper” BELT Pistol 1830s Belgian Made Self-defense Pistol!
Description: EUROPEAN Antique ENGRAVED Large Bore “Manstopper” BELT Pistol 1830s Belgian Made Self-defense Pistol! Here we present an engraved antique Belgian Belt Pistol, made circa 1830 in Liege. Liege has long been a manufacturing center for the world’s arms trade. This small type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries, in Europe, as well as the colonies that features a large, nearly .58 caliber “manstopping” bore that would have been worn on the belt or in a pommel holster. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. It was of course made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside. The grip is solid walnut. Nice twist pattern on the barrel. It seems to have been made on the cusp of the percussion system’s invention, having originally made in flintlock but updated to percussion. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is in very good shape with fine rifling. The lock, side plate, and barrel are lightly engraved. The stock is in nice condition with an old and stable crack behind the lock on the right side. “COLE” is marked on the inside of the forearm. The underside of the barrel is stamped “52”. A Belgian proof mark is on the left barrel. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6-5/8 inches. Caliber: .578 Overall condition as seen in photos.
