IRISH County WICKLOW Marked Antique H. NOCK Boxlock FLINTLOCK Pocket Pistol With the IRISH REGISTRATION MARK on Barrel & Grip
Description: IRISH County WICKLOW Marked Antique H. NOCK Boxlock FLINTLOCK Pocket Pistol With the IRISH REGISTRATION MARK on Barrel & Grip Here we present an antique H. Nock Boxlock Flintlock Pocket Pistol with Irish County Wicklow Markings, made circa 1800 in London, England. This pistol was manufactured by famed innovative gunmaker Henry Nock. Henry Nock was a British inventor and engineer of the early Napoleonic period, best known as a gunmaker. Nock produced many innovative weapons including the screwless lock and the seven-barreled volley gun, although he did not invent the latter despite it commonly being known as the Nock gun. He was a major supplier to the military during the early Napoleonic wars. His high quality dueling pistols and double-barreled shotguns were much sought after, and it is largely through Nock that the latter became the weapon of choice for hunters. As well as supplying the military and civilian markets, Nock made expensive pieces for the aristocracy and royalty and was an appointed gunmaker to the king. Nock's business eventually became Wilkinson Sword, a company which today makes razor blades and other shaving equipment and, until 2005, made officer's swords for the British Army. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of London, Paris and Liege during the early 1800s. These style pistols are small, light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 18th-19th century. Before the Deringer, they were “Gentleman's” or “Muff Pistols”, typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. The overall condition is very good. Patina throughout. This one has a registry number on top of the barrel. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and in good condition. The barrel does turn off, as intended. The grip is solid. London proofed. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 1-3/4 inches. Caliber: .50 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
