Description: REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA NEW ENGLAND BRASS BARRELED FLINTLOCK OFFICER’S PISTOL ENGRAVED ON SIDE PLATE “WILLAM OBLINIS”. Four Oblinis family members are listed as having served in the Orange County, New York Militia 2nd Regiment during the Revolution. Other Oblinis and Van Oblinis family members from the Hudson Valley probably served as well the name being a well known New York Dutch name. 15” o/a with 9” round brass .52 caliber smoothbore barrel. Brass mounts with distinctive and unique New England style elongated single brass ramrod pipe. Floral engraved lock signed on underside “KETLAND”. Side plate engraved in finely executed period script “WILLAM OBLINIS”. Cherry stock and original wood ramrod. Excellent original condition with the original brass and metal patina. Stock with all the original finish. Old repaired very small hairline at the wrist behind the thumbpiece. Working order and excellent bore. Very similar New England Officer’s pistol sold from the Hench collection by Morphy s lot 1134 in their October 2019 sale with estimates of $5000-$8000. Rare identified Revolutionary War era pistol.
