Engraved Single Shot Hideout with Ivories!
Here we present an antique Merrimack Arms Co. “SOUTHERNER” Deringer with an Engraved Brass Frame in .41 Rimfire, made circa 1869-73 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. There were approximately 16,000 of these little single shots built following the Civil War from 1866 to 1873. The first three years of production were made under the name Brown. From 1869 to 1873, they were built under the name Merrimack in their own serial range of 1 through approximately 10,000. This one has a low number itself. The iron frames are found in serial number range 1950-4500 and made up less than 30% of the production while the rest were brass frames. Brown and Merrimack also produced Ballard Rifles before being sold off to Marlin in the early 1870's.
The overall condition is very good. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is dim and a bit dusty from age. This is a handsome pistol with the engraved frame and ivory grips. A piece of tangible history!
