Here we present an antique Remington-Elliot Deringer (also known as the Vest Pocket Pistol), made from 1865-1888. This is an example of the .41 caliber cartridge Vest Pocket. Invented by William H. Elliot, only about 17,000 of these guns were made in all calibers in total over the 23 years production run. This single shot pistol is very simple in mechanics. Place the hammer in the most rearward position and load a cartridge. The hammer also acts as the loading gate and breach block.
The trigger mechanism consists of only a spur trigger, main spring, and combination hammer and breechblock. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address and patent information, and the matching serial number (5732) is marked on the bottom of the barrel and the bottom of the frame.
The overall condition is fine. Strong action. Original nickel finish. Bright bore. Both grips are in good shape with an expected amount of handling wear. Numbers match.
