New Haven Arms ~ Volcanic No. 1 Pocket ~ .31 Cal.
Description:
Historical precursor to the lever action rifle, New Haven Arms produced only about 3370 rifles, carbines and pistols in a three year period through 1860. This firearm used the earliest metallic cartridge containing powder and primer inside conical bullet called a Hunt Rocket Ball cartridge. Left side grip has a missing piece on bottom inside and right side grip has an older repaired crack. Gun is functional and solid but shows some light pitting, especially on lever. Some light original finish peeks through brown patina and light oxidation on barrel. Rifling is still visible inside bore, with light pitting showing there as well. Built in magazine (capacity 6) retains original spring and firing pin is still intact. Brass is simply yet elegantly engraved on left, right, top and backstrap. This gun cannot be transferred store to store. Antique, can be shipped direct.
