Rare IRON FRAME Merrimack Arms SOUTHERNER Deringer Single Shot Self Defense Spur Trigger!
Description: Rare IRON FRAME Merrimack Arms SOUTHERNER Deringer Single Shot Self Defense Spur Trigger! Here we present an antique Iron Frame Merrimack Arms Co. Southern Deringer made circa 1866-73 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. There were approximately 16,000 of these little single shots built following the Civil War from 1866 to 1873. Nobody is certain exactly why this pistol acquired the "Southerner" nickname, but it is clearly befitting of uncertain and often chaotic times of the Reconstruction Era. The first three years of production were made under the name Brown. From 1869 to 1873, they were built under the name Merrimack in their own serial range of 1 through approximately 10,000. The iron frames are found in serial number range 1950-4500. This made up less than 30% of the production while the rest were brass frames. Obviously, the iron frames are by far much harder to locate. Brown and Merrimack also produced Ballard Rifles before being sold off to Marlin in the early 1870's. The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have a gray patina. The markings are legible. The grips are in great shape. Strong bore with nice rifling. The action remains strong. Here is a scarce and desirable little Southern Deringer used in the free-for-all years after the Civil War! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-1/2 inches. Caliber: .41 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1100 #190176 SOLD Antique: Yes |
