RUPERTUS PAT‚D PISTOL MFG. CO. Pepperbox .22 Rimfire
Description: Guns Listing ID: 563444 Rare Civil War era Rupertus Patent Pistol Manufacturing Company 8-shot .22 rimfire pepperbox pistol, manufactured in Philadelphia circa 1864-1868. This pistol represents an early adoption of the .22 rimfire cartridge introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1857, featuring 8 individual barrels which was unusual capacity for pepperboxes of the era. The single action mechanism includes a safety system where the rear firing pin assembly rotates to block accidental discharge. Loading is accomplished through a side-loading gate with the cylinder at half-cock for rotation. The pistol is properly marked \"Rupertus Patent Pistol Manufacturing Company Philadelphia\" and bears a serial number from the approximately 3,000 total production run. This example is missing the ejector rod that should unscrew from the front of the frame, and has timing issues with the cylinder rotation and lockup that will need attention. Otherwise the pistol appears mechanically sound with good bore condition and retains original grips with matching serial numbers. This represents one of the more sophisticated pocket pistols of the 1860s and makes an excellent addition for collectors of early American cartridge firearms or Civil War era pocket pistols from this innovative but short-lived Philadelphia manufacturer.
