32718-ORNATE MASTERPIECE CLAUDE NIQUET OF LIEGE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL CIRCA MID 1700’S. 17” o/a with 9 ½” Spanish form barrel with Claude Niquet intaglio Spanish style maker’s stamps at center breech. Smoothbore .65 caliber. Lock signed with maker’s name and “A Liege” One of the most ornate of his pistols known with Italian rococo style gilded brass mounts and very ornate floral carved walnut stock. Royal Crown wrist escutcheon on wrist with portrait of a lady at the center and two such lady portraits on the sides of the butt cap and boss cap of a grotesque masque. Excellent condition and 100% original. Probably made for the German Grand Duke Ernst August one of his patrons and known for his love of Italian Rococo decoration. Exceptional true masterpiece. $9500.
