Antique HENRY NOCK Pattern 1799 ELLIOT Light Dragoon FLINTLOCK Pistol .66 NAPOLEONIC ERA British Flintlock MILITARY Pistol

Description:
Antique HENRY NOCK Pattern 1799 ELLIOT Light Dragoon FLINTLOCK Pistol .66

NAPOLEONIC ERA British Flintlock MILITARY Pistol

Here we present an antique H. Nock Pattern 1799 Elliot Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in London, England. Henry Nock (1741–1804) was a British inventor and engineer during the Napoleonic period but was best known as a gunsmith. Nock produced many innovative weapons during this era including the screwless lock and the seven-barreled volley gun, although he did not invent the latter despite it commonly being known as the Nock gun. He was a major supplier to the military during the Napoleonic wars.

In 1759, Colonel George Augustus Elliot was given the task of raising the first regiment of British “Light” Dragoons. Unsatisfied with the standard Land Pattern pistol, Colonel Elliot decided to equip his men with his own version of the dragoon pistol. Curtailing its unwieldy twelve-inch barrel to nine inches and shortening the grip, Elliot made the pistol more manageable. He reduced the amount of brass needed for the furniture and standardized the bore to accept the same .66 caliber ammunition used by his men’s carbines.

The Pattern 1799 Eliott Light Dragoon Pistol would be the last of the British Land Service pistols to use a wooden rammer, and all future patterns of muzzle loading Land Service Pistols, including percussion arms, would utilize a swinging captive steel rammer. As mentioned above, the Eliott design also marked the end of the 12” barrel as standard on Land Service pistols, and by the 1790s the longer barreled pistols were being phased out of production.

The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. There is some very old chipping (from the period of use) from the forend, just under the ramrod. Also a chip formed under the front of the lock plate. Legible markings. Even dark brown patina throughout on the metal parts. “TH” is marked on the left stock flat.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 9 inches.
