Brander & Potts Flintlock Dueling Pistols Pair
Description: Here we have a very fine pair of English dueling and/or cavalry flintlock pistols made by Brander & Potts, 70 Minories Street, London. The pistols are numbered on top of the butts as Nos. 77 & 78 dating them between 1802 and 1805 - early in the company's history as they ceased operations around 1822. Although I have not micrometerd the smooth bores the caliber estimated at .65. The barrels are 12" in length. Each pistol lhas a matching detachable stock. Both stocks lock up nice and tight. The bores are so pristine that one might wonder if they were ever fired. They exhibit no flash marks in the bores or flash pans from being fired, except, possibly, for factory test firing. The checkering on the pistol butt handles differs slightly in the "lines per inch"; although perfectly done and in great, sharp condition, possibly indicating stockwork by two different gunsmiths. The actions work perfectly with good trigger pull and sharp snap (to a pad). Having seen dozens of similar English and/or French flintlock pistols over the years, I contend this is one of finest pairs of pistols I have ever seen - not to mention that they are the only pair I have ever seen with matching detachable stocks. The guns and stocks exhibit no cracks or damage of any sort. I might easily consider a trade against a fine, high grade Winchester Model 1894 that letters to the Cody Firearms Museum. $50.00 S&H. SOLD. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Brander & Potts Serial Number: 77 and 78 Bore: .65 Condition: Excellent Metal Condition: Excellent Wood Condition: Very good to Fine Bore Condition: Near new Stock: Detachable |
