c1780s CASED SET Antique BENNETT Flintlock DUELING PISTOLS British .58 Cal. Beautiful Brace of ENGRAVED DUELERS w/ACCESSORIES
Description: c1780s CASED SET Antique BENNETT Flintlock DUELING PISTOLS British .58 Cal. Beautiful Brace of ENGRAVED DUELERS w/ACCESSORIES Here we present a Cased Pair of antique John Bennett Dueling Pistols, made circa the 1780s in London, England. These large flintlock pistols are both signed “Bennett Royal Exchange London” in script on the swamped barrels with London proofs. John Bennett is listed as an active gunmaker between circa 1781-1802. “RHCS” inscribed silver escutcheons. Hand-checkered and carved grips with leafy designs on the pommel. Front and rear sights. Engraved locks and barrel tangs. The fitted case has a Bennett trade label and includes a flask, container, screwdriver, brush, loading/cleaning rod, balls, and patches. Purpose-built dueling pistols have various improvements to make them more reliable and accurate, such as longer and heavier barrels, spurs on the trigger guards, occasionally saw handles, platinum-lined touch-holes and hair triggers. All component parts were manufactured, hand-finished and then adjusted with great care and precision, which made dueling pistols much more costly than standard firearms of the period. Special care was taken when molding the lead bullets to ensure that there were no voids which would affect accuracy. Pistols were carefully and identically loaded, and each duelist was offered his choice of the indistinguishable loaded pistols. As duels were generally fought at short distances which were paced out, typically 35 to 45 feet between stationary opponents, extreme accuracy was not required. The overall condition is near fine. Very nicely refinished. Reconverted with a new breech section. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and dim. The stocks are solid. One of the ramrods has lost its tip. The case is in fair to good condition with the biggest injury being the loose center compartment containing the powder flask. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 9-1/4 inches. Calibers: .58 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $12,000 #247687 Antique: Yes Price: $12,000.00 Buy Now Pay with ![]() Contact Seller |
