Fine Pair of English Flintlock Pistols. Made approximately 1700-1720. Bore is .65 caliber. Barrel length 12” and overall length 19 ¾”. Barrel proof is for London with Crown CP and Crown V for final inspection proof. Barrels are three stage. Tail of lock is engraved with a panoply of arms. The name Pasual is also on the tail of the lock. No other makers marks are present. This is a robust pair of pistols. The engraved and chiseled brass mounts with a panoply of arms in high relief consisting of drums, canons, lances, banners and armor. The butt cap is that of a man with oak leaf wreath about his head much like a Roman emperor. The stock is inlaid with royal device with crown and cameo of a figure with plumed helmet. The trigger guard is in chiseled in relief. The side plate is very well done with figures of fanciful figures in Rococo scrolls and a cameo of the same helmeted figure as mentioned before. The overall condition of both pistols is excellent. We can only guess that the lack of a maker’s name might be at the request of the owner. Very impressive pair of fine flintlock pistols.
