J. Henry 1807 Contract Flintlock Pistol
Description: This is one of the standard 1807 Contact pistols supplied by Joseph Henry of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who manufactured a limited number of flintlock military pistols under U.S. Government Contracts, in 1807 and 1808. Henry was contracted to manufacture a total of 650 pairs. This pistol is stamped "US" under the pan and "J.HENRY/PHILA. at the end of the lockplate. The top of the barrel has a brass blade front sight and is marked with "J. HENRY PHILA," in one line and has an "eagle head/P" proof, along the top of the barrel. The side plate and pommel cap have "M" stamps, and the stock has an "M" at the tail of the left flat. A .54 Ball smoothbore, with a 10 1/8 inch round barrel. This model did not have a rear sight. Very good "out of the attic" appearance overall. The barrel and lock has a dark brown patina, with some mild oxidation and pitting, and scrapes from the flint by the vent and on the frizzen, tool mark on the left at the breech, and moderate wear. The brass furniture has aged patina that is particularly darkened on the trigger guard bow along with mild dings and scratches. The stock is also good with some repaired cracks, and general small marks and scratches. Mechanically fine. Price: $4,200.00 Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
