Large Bore 18th Century Flintlock Turn-Off Pistol by Jover & Son of London
Description: NSN, .52 Caliber, 1 3/4" barrel with a very good, lightly freckled bore. This is a very well-made little pistol that has an overall dark, plum-brown patina with some minor scratches and handling marks present along the barrel. The box frame has martial panoply engraving with ribands on both sides reading: "JOVER & SON" on the left; "LONDON" on the right (William Jover & Son operated at 337 Oxford St., London 1783 & 1796). The unadorned walnut grip has a slight bear’s head peak and has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout, including a large bruise on the left side next to the upper tang. The action is fully functional, including the sliding safety. This is a seldom seen, big bore pocket type pistol, made by a well-known London maker, and is in good-very good condition overall.
