Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Grierson Flintlock Sword Pistol, made circa 1800 in London, England. Charles Grierson was a workman of famed British Gunmaker John Manton and was Gunmaker to King George III (1738-1820).

This example measures 33” overall with a 26 ½” blade. The heart of the weapon is a cannon-barreled boxlock flintlock pistol fitted with a sliding half-cock safety and a straight hardwood grip. It has engraved silver side panels marked “GRIERSON” on the left and “LONDON” on the right, with the right panel also fitted with a clamshell languet. The pommel cap features a grotesque mask design, with a combination trigger guard and D-pattern knuckleguard with hallmarks on the left side. Grotesque mask on the pommel. Sword & pistol combinations like this are rare!

The overall condition is fine. Patina throughout. The pistol’s action is excellent. The top jaw of the cock is absent. The blade is straight and still somewhat sharp with a small nick at the midpoint. Solid hilt. London proofed pistol and silver hallmarked guard and languet. Solid wood grip.
