London Marked Brass Barreled Flintlock Pistol
Description: NSN, .60 Caliber, 7 7/8" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is a nicely proportioned pistol, "LONDON" marked on the top of the breech, but with no visible maker’s name. The barrel, and all of the brass furniture have a pleasant yellow-ochre patina with some dark spots scattered about, as well as an area of dark tarnish along the underside of the barrel. The iron lock has an overall plum-brown patina with some minor pinprick pitting on the pan. The pin-fastened walnut stock has some delicate silver wire inlay around the wrist tang, and has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the old added oil finish. There are several with-the-grain cracks at the tip of the forend. Additionally, there appears to be a small iron brad affixing the wrist escutcheon in place, and it has been incorporated as part of the overall embellishment design. The lock is fully functional and the pistol is a good-very good example of a British brass barreled coat or traveling pistol. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
