NAPOLEONIC WARS Era French Arsenal An XIII FLINTLOCK .69 CAVALRY Pistol
FRENCH MILITARY Pistol Made for HORSEBACK Use
Description: NAPOLEONIC WARS Era French Arsenal An XIII FLINTLOCK .69 CAVALRY Pistol
FRENCH MILITARY Pistol Made for HORSEBACK Use
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique French Flintlock Pistolet Modèle An XIII, or Pistol Model An 13, made in France between 1806 and 1814. This model was manufactured at all three of the main French Arsenals, Charleville, Maubeuge, and St-Etienne. This pistol was made for use as a cavalry pistol.
Over 300,000 of these pistols were made during their 8 year production run. This pistol was designed to equip mounted units, each horseman using two pistols. It was also used by the Navy. An improved version, known as the Model 1822, was produced after the Napoleonic Wars. Proving that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, the Americans copied the design as the “Harpers Ferry Pistol” and used it against the British in the War of 1812. This pistol is of robust construction with lots of brass for support. The bore is a massive .69 caliber.
The overall condition is good. Bright brass and gray patina. The hammer only holds in half cock, the trigger functions. Original flintlock. Solid stock with average dents and dings. Lock markings are obfuscated. What appears to be “CCEXHIUB” is hand marked on the bottom of the stock to the front of the trigger guard tang. The bore remains smooth and in good shape for its age.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 8 inches.
Caliber: .69 Flintlock
Overall condition as seen in photos.
