Here we present a pair of antique Engraved and Silver Inlaid Caucasian/Ottoman Flintlock Dragoon Horse Pistols. These pistols were made circa the early 1800s for military applications on horseback. These firearms are thoroughly decorated by hand on the entirety of their wood and metal surfaces. The designs on the wood are floral carved and brass inlaid. The barrels and locks are both ornately silver inlaid with the furniture engraved. These pistols feature long barrels, as is common for troops fighting on horses, and the butt-caps are solid and heavy as one would expect for a single shot weapon of the time period. When one did not have time to reload, one reversed the grip and swung for skull.
This style of flintlock was popular throughout the Ottoman Empire from the seventeenth into the early twentieth century. Several elaborately decorated guns very similar to this example are still preserved in Istanbul, possibly made for the Ottoman Imperial guard.
The overall conditions are good. Both actions are strong and fully function. One hammer requires slight manual assistance for the hammer to drop. Both bores are good and smooth. Solid, carved stocks with light chipping around each butt. The pommel is missing on one example. Detailed engravings with 98% of the inlays intact. Collectors number and tags are present on the trigger guard tang and grip.
Own the original! These are legitimate antiques and not reproductions.
Barrels are 9 and 8-3/4 inches.
Caliber: Both are .60 Flintlock
Overall condition as seen in photos.
