REVOLUTIONARY Era BRITISH BARBAR Flintlock Pistol Made Circa the Late-18th Century
Description: REVOLUTIONARY Era BRITISH BARBAR Flintlock Pistol Made Circa the Late-18th Century Here we present an antique Barbar of London Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late-18th Century in London, England. The Barbar family got its start in England when Louis Barbar, a Huguenot from Poitou, France, fled persecution after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV in 1685. Louis (or Lewis) was a gunmaker who became Gentleman Armorer to King George I & II. His son James apprenticed with him and then took over the business in 1741 upon his father’s death. James made flintlock firearms until his death in 1773. This pistol was made for more than carrying concealed and was the type that would have been carried by officers and civilians alike, and pistols such as this one were used on both sides of the American War for Independence. The right side of the lock is marked “BARBAR”. The top of the barrel is faintly marked “LONDON”. The overall condition is good. The iron parts are worn and dark. The markings are mostly legible. The walnut stock has a bit of fraying near the muzzle but is otherwise in good shape. The bore is smooth and dark. The action remains strong. Here is a great example of a historical pistol! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7 inches. Caliber: .65 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1975 #190392 SOLD Antique: Yes |
