RICHARDS Antique ENGLISH Brass Barreled .58 Cal. FLINTLOCK Pistol British
Early 1800s Birmingham Proofed Pistol
Description: RICHARDS Antique ENGLISH Brass Barreled .58 Cal. FLINTLOCK Pistol British Early 1800s Birmingham Proofed Pistol Here we present an antique Richards of London English Brass Barrel Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in turn of the century London, England. Theophilus Richards worked in London from 1790 until 1830 and also maintained a shop in Birmingham. Known for his high-quality firearms, Richards enjoyed many British Government and Military Contracts. This pistol has a fairly large frame and a brass barrel. The bore is a strong .58 caliber. Their effective range was much shorter than a musket and they were frequently used in combination with sword or cutlass. Then as now, rifles and muskets were the primary arm of the day, useful for everything from hunting to combat. Pistols were certainly not as numerous but still very useful for combat since most firearms at this time were limited to a single shot. Imagine if one discharged their single shot firearm only to miss or have another enemy close the distance. A man expecting trouble might carry as many pistols on his person as he could. According to some estimates, European rifles were made at a ratio of 250:1 over pistols, making these rare and highly coveted. This pistol has been there and done that. Verdigris on the muzzle of the brass barrel. The action is not presently functional, though the cock will move back and forth. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock has been chipped at the muzzle-end of the forestock and shows much use overall. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .58 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1745 #220371 SOLD Antique: Yes |
