SCARCE Antique BRITISH Tap Action Flintlock Pistol
Description: SCARCE Antique BRITISH Tap Action Flintlock Pistol Made by WILLIAM SIDDONS of Birmingham, England Here we present an antique Tap Action Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1820 by William Siddons in Birmingham, England. This pistol was designed for close quarters self-defense in early 19th Century England. An obvious improvement over single shot pistols of the time, and perhaps even over double barreled pistols with multiple hammers and triggers, the unique feature on this pistol is the selector on the left side of the frame. With both barrels are charged and primed, the first barrel can be fired, the selector pushed down 90 degrees, opening the breech to the second barrel. This pistol also has turn-off barrels, making loading a larger ball easier than ramming one down the muzzle. This latter feature also negated the use of a ramrod and helped create a better gas seal, making the short barrel and single shot as efficient and effective as possible. This specimen features light engraving on the frame. The name of the maker “SIDDONS” is marked on the left side and “LONDON” on the right. The selector switch for the tap action has a round wheel with “spokes” engraved on, that turns when the switch is turned. The barrels are numbered to the frame. Each barrel and the frame have Birmingham proof marks. The wood grip has a small initial placard and checkering on the back. The overall condition of this pistol is very good. The metal surfaces are smooth and were left in the white. The markings are engraving are clear and legible. The Grips and bores are in very good condition. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Compare to $1850! Barrel is octagonal and 2-1/8 inches in length. Caliber: .42 Bore is in very good condition and the action is fine. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a very nice and interesting English Tap Action Flintlock! Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1150 #21782 SOLD Antique: Yes |
