THOMAS KETLAND FLINTLOCK Pistol FRONTIER PIONEER TRAPPER HOMESTEAD
Antique .54 Caliber Smoothbore Single Shot Sidearm
Description: THOMAS KETLAND FLINTLOCK Pistol FRONTIER PIONEER TRAPPER HOMESTEAD Antique .54 Caliber Smoothbore Single Shot Sidearm Here we present an antique T. Ketland & Co. Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late 1700s to the early 1800s in turn of the century England. Thomas Ketland & Co. was a firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England somewhere around 1760. Thomas Ketland Sr. was a highly successful Birmingham gunmaker. He started his business around 1760 and expanded into the export market around 1790. He died in 1816. The business carried on until about 1821. The company manufactured flintlock pistols, becoming quite successful in its field. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The iron lock plate is marked “T./KETLAND/&Co” and the brass octagonal barrel is marked “LONDON”. This pistol was likely a trade item that was used in the former American colonies by frontiersmen and homesteaders. The barrel is round with a beautiful full-length walnut stock, and the engravings on the brass are reserved yet handsome. People expecting a fight in that day may have carried and rifle or musket and several pistols as reloading was slow and tedious. If only this gun could tell us some stories. The overall condition is near fine. Original patina. The action is excellent. The bore is patinated and smooth. The stock is solid. A fantastic piece of history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches. Caliber: .54 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1850 #228261 SOLD Antique: Yes |
