LAYAWAY?.....54 cal, 8 1/2” round barrel with a moderately oxidized bore. The metal surfaces are mostly a mix of pewter and dark gray gunmetal patina showing an old light cleaning with some remnants of oxidation staining and areas of light pitting that is partially smoothed-over. The breech retains strong “U.S. / JA / P” proof marks while the lockplates markings are also strong with typical Waters markings in center, eagle head proof and 1837 date. The walnut stock rates about very good plus, the grip area showing an old light cleaning and repair on either side, along with some smaller drying cracks around the lock and other dings. The backstrap is a bit proud of the stock though it otherwise retains a pair of fine inspector cartouches along the left flat. The lock is crisp and seems to function well mechanically.
