Description: 32673-BRITISH BIRMINGHAM SILVER MOUNTED DERINGER STYLE PERCUSSION BELT PISTOL SIGNED VAN WART & SON & CO. CA. 1840’S-50’s. 10” o/a with 6” octagon .50 caliber rifled and front and rear sighted Damascus barrel engraved on top flat “LONDON” and with Liege proof at left breech. Serial number stamp (171) forward of proof on left barrel flat. Half-length walnut checkered stock with cap trap in butt compartment. Engraved German silver mounts. German silver stirrup ramrod mount with original steel ramrod. Lock floral scroll engraved with maker name. Nice all original pistol of the form associated with Henry Deringer of Philadelphia and mainly imported and sold in the American market. Light wear and moderate patina. Working order. Gold Rush, Mexican War and Civil War era pistol. Van Wart & Son & Co were merchants to the American and West Indies markets and suppliers of gunparts to American gunmakers. They were known to mark the barrels of their guns "London". Forward of Liege proof on left barrel flat typical.
