Description: Antique ENGRAVED “Manstopper” PERCUSSION BELT Pistol Belgian Made Self-defense Pistol! Here we present an engraved antique Belt Pistol, made circa the 1850s in Liege, Belgium. Liege has long been a manufacturing center for the world’s arms trade. This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries, in Europe, as well as the colonies. This one stands out with its octagonal, Damascus barrel, carved grip, case colors, and engraved German silver detail. The pommel cap has a small percussion cap trap underneath a lid that was cast to the likeness of a person’s face. This pistol features a large .48 caliber bore that would have been worn on the belt or holstered. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. It was of course made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside. The overall condition is fine. The action is excellent. The bore is in especially good shape for its age, clean with nice rifling. Nice Damascene patterning on the barrel. The stock is excellent. A very classy pistol for the 19th Century European gentleman. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-1/2 inches.
