Description: Antique FRENCH Made Engraved AUGUSTIN MERLEY-DUON .50 Caliber Target Pistol Manufactured in St. Etienne Circa the Early 19th Century Here we present an antique French Augustin Merley-Duon Target Pistol, manufactured circa the early-19th century at Nancy, France. Augustin Merley-Duon was a French gunmaker in east-central France in the 1820s and 1830s. This conversion pistol would have started out life as a flintlock and converted sometime after the more reliable percussion firing system was introduced. It features a swamped octagonal barrel with “Duon a Nancy” engraved and inlaid in silver on the top flat. The rear sight features a standing V notch with a folding notch that can be stood up for longer range. Single set trigger. The stock has studded checkering. “Duon/Nancy” is engraved on the lock plate as well. The overall condition is fair. The action holds half- and full-cock. The hammer does not want to drop when the trigger is pulled. The single set function of the trigger is also not currently functional. Both aspects need some tweaking. The bore is smooth and in good condition. The stock has some small, stable splits or cracks. A handsome 19th Century French target pistol! Own the original!
