LARGE SxS FIGHTING SIDEARM

Here we present an antique Italian A. Bordoni Double Barrel Side by Side Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s-50s. This Howdah type pistol is large and has twin .58 caliber bores. Pistols such as this were in many cases used in India and Africa to protect against dangerous game but would have been equally useful against human predators or combatants. This handsome pistol would have been most at home in a saddle mounted pommel holster when not punching large holes. In a day when the single shot pistol was the standard, this side by side percussion pistol would have been a very handy self-defense weapon to have around, having two shots to fire off instead of one!

The overall condition is good. Original dark brown patina. Strong action. The left nipple is chipped. The right hammer screw head is absent. Lightly engraved locks and hammers. Stable, repaired cracks in the stock, otherwise solid. Both bores are smooth and patinated, and remain good for their ages. Markings are legible.
