Handsome GENTLEMAN’S HOLSTER/COAT POCKET Pistol

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique European Percussion Coat Pocket/Holster Pistol, made circa the 1850s likely in Western Europe. This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries in Europe, as well as the colonies that features a large manstopping .69 caliber bore that would have been worn on the belt, carried in a coat pocket, or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle after being privately purchased. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. It was likely made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside.

The overall condition is good. Mixed gray and brown patinas. The action functions, but the trigger must be manually set in order for the hammer to cock. Dark bore, good for its age. The stock is in very good shape with light handling wear and much of the grip checkering remains well defined.
