BANK NOTE ENGRAVED English GLENTON Antique SILVER INLAID Percussion Pistol
British SELF DEFENSE Pistol Made Circa 1840
Description: BANK NOTE ENGRAVED English GLENTON Antique SILVER INLAID Percussion Pistol
British SELF DEFENSE Pistol Made Circa 1840
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Bank Note Engraved British T. Glenton Silver Inlaid Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s-50s in Hull, England. This gun has bank note engraving throughout with fine details to the trigger guard and barrel tang, among others. It has a silver inlaid walnut stock with checking on both sides of the grip.
This pistol features a large .69 caliber “manstopping” bore that would have been tucked into one’s belt or holstered. This handsome pistol would have been most at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket to have against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the middle of the 19th century. This pistol could have been the type of pistol a soldier would have possibly purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he was to come into contact with the enemy.
The overall condition is good. Bright gray patina. The action is strong. Very good smooth bore. The wood is refinished. A stable crack is present on the left forend around the barrel wedge. The toe also shows a stable repaired crack. Markings are legible. Engraved lock, trigger guard, and barrel. Checkered grip.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
