Early Model Springfield Arms Company Pocket Model Revolver 28 Cal Percussion
Description: Serial #19, .28 Caliber percussion, black powder, 2 ½ inch round barrel with a semi-bright, lightly pitted bore. This is an early model Springfield Arms Company pocket model revolver manufactured circa 1851 marked "SPRINGF'D ARMS CO" on the top strap featuring an engraved frame with crossed cannons and flags. The early model saw production of about 525 pieces. Mechanically the revolver is sound with the proper advancement of the cylinder on each cock of the hammer. It disassembles easily with removal of the top screw allowing the barrel to rotate and slide off the center pin for loading and cleaning. Trace amounts perhaps 10-15% of the original finish are found on protected areas of the frame with most now in the white showing carbon staining and old contusions, especially on the cylinder. The engraving remains strong. The original walnut grips are present rating about fair with a repaired crack on the left panel. The hammer holds at half and full cock and it has a crisp trigger pull. A very good to fine example of this rare percussion pocket revolver. SOLD Antique: Yes |
