Description: ENGRAVED Antique British RICHARDSON Boxlock Percussion SELF DEFENSE Pistol
“LIVERPOOL” 1840s SIDEHAMMER Coat/Pocket Pistol
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Nicely Engraved G.L. Richardson Sidehammer Boxlock Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s in Liverpool, England. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket or tucked into the belt of anyone in the busy cities of London, Paris and Liege during the early to mid-1800s. This style pistol is light and simple. The “Coat/Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 18th-19th century. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. It is elegantly engraved on the sides of the frame.
With its .40 caliber bore, this pistol would have been quite the deterrent against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the early to mid-1800s.
The overall conditions are good. Original gray patina is preserved. Both actions are strong. The bores are in good shape for their ages, and remain smooth. Solid checker grip. Lightly engraved frame. Markings are legible.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 4 inches.
