ENGRAVED British DOUBLE BARREL Pistol by TATHAM
Made Circa 1850 at Charing Cross, London!
Description: ENGRAVED British DOUBLE BARREL Pistol by TATHAM Made Circa 1850 at Charing Cross, London! Here we present an antique Henry Tatham Junior Double Barrel Percussion Pistol in .42 Caliber, made circa 1850 in the family shop at 37 Charing Cross, London, England. This was a multi-generational family business, possibly extending further back than Henry Tatham Sr. (1770-1835), but certainly including his sons Henry Tatham Junior (1804-1860) and Charles Tatham (d.1846). This pistol shows good workmanship and is nicely engraved on the lock, trigger guard and barrel tang. Each of the hammers is shaped and engraved to resemble a creature. A double-barreled pistol in these days would have given the user an advantage over most adversaries since single shot pistols were the order of the day, being simpler and less expensive to make. This pistol features a single captive ramrod on a swivel to aid in loading both barrels. The trigger guard is distinct with its curvature and sharp bend in front of the knuckle. It was made for a .42 caliber projectile which would have been just right for this size of pistol that would have been carried on the belt. Each lock is marked “H TATHAM JUNR”, as is the rib between the barrels, along with “LONDON”. The overall condition is very good. The iron parts have an aged patina. The markings are clear. The stock is in very good shape. The bores are smooth and in very good condition. The actions are excellent. Here is a handsome and well-made pistol that would have given the user the upper hand! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4-1/2 inches. Caliber: .42 (actual diameter .425 inches) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
