Description: Engraved H. MEREDITH Officers/Travelers PERCUSSION Self Defense BELT Pistol English Percussion Pistol Made Circa the EARLY 1830s Here we present an antique H. Meredith Percussion Pistol, made circa the early 1830s in Birmingham, England. Henry Meredith was an active gunmaker in Birmingham, England, but marked his guns “London” from 1824 through 1833. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels. The top flat is marked “London” in fancy script and dual bands of gold and one band of silver. The lock is clearly marked “H. Meredith” and very nice foliate scrollwork throughout. The pistol is equipped with a belt hook on the left side along with a steel trigger guard. The remaining hardware is of German silver including the barrel under-rib that mounts the ramrod assembly, nosecap, fance wedge escutcheons, teardrop shaped buttcap, oval monogram plate on top of the wrist, and a small inlay on the left side featuring two partridges. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. “MEREDITH” marked lock. Solid grip/stock. The ramrod lug has separated and does not stabilize the rod. Silver barrel bands. Lightly engraved lock, hammer and barrel tang. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4 inches.
