Engraved HOWDAH Style ALDEN & SMITH SxS Pistol
Description: Engraved HOWDAH Style ALDEN & SMITH SxS Pistol Massive Bore Double Barrel Defense Pistol Here we present an antique Howdah Double Barrel Percussion Pistol, made circa 1830. The howdah pistol was a large caliber handgun, often with two or four barrels, used in India and Africa from the beginning of the nineteenth century, and into the early twentieth century, during the British Empire era. It was typically intended for defense against tigers, lions, and other dangerous animals that might be encountered in remote areas. Alden & Smith were gun and barrel makers working out of their shop at 9 Princes Court in Westminster, London, from 1826 through 1836. In his earlier years, Thomas Smith was a barrel maker for legendary gun maker John Manton. The overall condition is very good. The barrels have a very nice twist pattern. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is in good shape with two very well performed grafts, one on the right side at the rear of the trigger guard and the other on the left side just under the lock. The bores are smooth and clean. The actions are excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a stately example of a pistol made for self-defense against man or beast! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-3/8 inch solid rib. Caliber: .65 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1500 #8064 SOLD Antique: Yes |
