Engraved PATILLA MIQUELET Flintlock “Militia” Belt/Holster Pistol EUROPEAN
Late 18th Century Miquelet Pistol
Description: Engraved PATILLA MIQUELET Flintlock “Militia” Belt/Holster Pistol EUROPEAN Late 18th Century Miquelet Pistol Here we present an antique Patilla, or “Militia” Miquelet Belt Pistol, made likely in mainland Europe circa the late 18th century. The miquelet was an early and sturdy form of flintlock popular throughout Europe and the Ottoman Empire from the seventeenth into the early nineteenth century. A “Miquelet” is a type of flintlock developed in Spain. It is a distinctive form of snaplock, originally as a flint-against-steel ignition form, once prevalent in Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Balkans, North Africa and the Ottoman Empire from the late 16th to the mid-19th centuries. The miquelet lock, with its combined battery and pan cover was the final innovative link that made the flintlock mechanism possible. It proved to be both the precursor and companion to what we now call the "true" flintlock. The overall condition is good. Dark patina with some visible wire inlay in the barrel. Converted to percussion with the original Miquelette lock. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock shows much use and remains solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4-1/8 inches. Caliber: .68 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
