Exceedingly Rare 1st Model Perry Breech Loading Percussion Pistol

These were made from 1854 until 1856, with this being the harder to find first type based on the lever style. Total production is estimated at a few hundred. This gun shows signs of a very old refinish, at which point the address on the top of the breech block were lost. There is some very light pitting here and there, gun shows wear and use. The barrel, frame, and breechblock all have the matching serial number. Grips are fine with some light handling marks and a fair amount of original varnish. Some caliber differences have been noted in our research, this one is in .58 caliber and is a smoothbore. The action works as it should, however the main spring is broken (both halves are present). 6 1/2 inch barrel. These have been traditionally considered secondary martial pistols and certainly some of these undoubtedly saw use in the Civil War. Of interest, the Confederate Keen & Walker carbines made in Danville VA utilize the exact same mechanism and it's no wonder that they were referred to, for a very long time prior to further research being done, as Confederate Perry Carbines.
