Description: GERMANIC Antique I. TURKIN of WALDSEE Percussion .54 Caliber BELT PISTOL 1840s Large Pistol with Octagonal Barrel Here we present an antique I. Turkin Pistol, made circa the 1840s in Waldsee, Baden-Württemberg, which is in modern day Germany. This pistol would have been of military size and caliber, something an officer may have used as a sidearm. “I. TURKIN WALDSEE” is marked atop the octagonal barrel. .54 caliber smoothbore. This pistol features a cane-like grip with hand-checkering on either side. The large, flat brass pommel, generous trigger guard, and side plate are all of engraved brass. Engraving on top of the barrel as well as the lock. Horn tipped stock. A very nice front sight for the period, it is relatively large and dovetailed, making it windage adjustable. No provision for a rear sight. The overall condition is good. The hammer holds tight in half-cock but slips out of the full-cock notch. The bore is smooth and gray. The right side of the stock, just above the trigger guard, is cracked and remains stable. This is a handsome piece from around the time of the 1848 Revolutions that swept through Europe, including the German states! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
