HOWDAH Type Double Barrel PISTOL .70 Caliber St. Etienne Bourgaud & Cie
Ornate with Sculpted Cast Brass & Engravings
Description: HOWDAH Type Double Barrel PISTOL .70 Caliber St. Etienne Bourgaud & Cie Ornate with Sculpted Cast Brass & Engravings Here we present an antique Howdah Double Barrel Pistol by Bourgaud & Cie of St. Etienne, France, made circa the mid-19th Century. This pistol represents serious firepower with twin .70 caliber bores in barrels 9 ½ inch barrels. Each barrel has its own lock and trigger. This piece is handsomely ornate, utilizing engraved locks and hammers, cast figures on the trigger guard and ramrod tube featuring lions and a handsome hunter with hare in hand. Hammers also represent lions. The stock is fluted at the grip with some faint carving near the locks. The barrels are of twist construction with the rib featuring what we believe is Ge’ez, an ancient language in Ethiopia and Eritrea and beyond. It is very possible that this was some kind of gift or trade item in colonial Africa. The overall condition is good. There is good Damascus pattern on the barrels and an even patina throughout. The actions are excellent. The right hammer spur was chipped, repaired via brazing, then broken again long ago. The bores are in good condition with many-grooved rifling. The stock shows use and remains solid. A very intriguing and handsome piece of craftsmanship! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 9 ½ inches. Caliber: .70 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #226975 SOLD Antique: Yes |
