LONDON PERCUSSION PISTOL BY VAN WART, 1850-1860

Description:
Van Wart, Son & Company pocket pistol, London made circa 1850-60. Van Wart was primarily a dealer who purchased arms in England and exported them to the American market, mostly for sale in the Southern states. The top of the 6” long barrel is marked “LONDON”. The lock is marked “VAN WART, SON & CO”. The overall condition is good with finish remaining on the lock. The metal surfaces are dark with age, worn engraving in areas, and with a fine patina. The markings are legible. The stock is in good overall shape with an old and worn chip in the forestock (shown). The smooth bore is about .45 caliber and dark. The lock functions well. Small brass cap box in the butt. Old hickory ramrod but likely a period replacement, not original. New nipple. Overall length is 9 ½”. $400, plus $25 for shipping and insurance.
