Pair of BRITISH Antique ADAMS .58 Caliber PERCUSSION CONVERSION Pistols SECOND BRITISH EMPIRE ERA Big Bores for an Officer
Description: Pair of BRITISH Antique ADAMS .58 Caliber PERCUSSION CONVERSION Pistols SECOND BRITISH EMPIRE ERA Big Bores for an Officer Here we present a pair of antique Second British Empire Percussion Conversion Officer’s Pistols, made by Joseph Adams circa the late 1700s to early 1800s. This would have been the type of pistol an officer purchased on his own to bring to battle in case he was to come into contact with the enemy. Joseph Adams was a gunmaker out of Birmingham, England who worked from 1767 until 1813, so it’s quite conceivable that these pistols possibly saw use in the Revolutionary War, and very likely saw use in the War of 1812 and the Napoleonic Wars, which lasted until 1815. These conversion pistols would have started out life as flintlocks and converted to percussion when the more reliable firing system came about. Historians consider the Second British Empire to have begun somewhere around 1783 and was the empire fighting against Napoleon Bonaparte of France and the dominant power in much of continental Europe at the end of the 18th century into the beginning of the 19th century when this pistol was made. A series of wars, known collectively as the Napoleonic Wars, extended French influence to much of Western Europe and into Poland. At its height in 1812, the French Empire had 130 departments, ruled over 70 million subjects, maintained an extensive military presence in Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Duchy of Warsaw, and counted Prussia and Austria as nominal allies. The overall condition is very good. The action is strong all around. The bores are smooth and dark. The finish on the twist barrel is maturing to a light brown patina. The top of both barrels read “LONDON” while the locks say “ADAMS”. The stocks are in great shape with a nice shiny wood finish. Here is a chance to own an instant displayable collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 7 inches. Caliber: .58 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
