RARE Antique ALLEN & WHEELOCK Percussion Revolver Large Frame DA BAR-HAMMER with SCARCE Screw-In Cylinder Pin
Description: RARE Antique ALLEN & WHEELOCK Percussion Revolver Large Frame DA BAR-HAMMER with SCARCE Screw-In Cylinder Pin Here we present an antique Allen & Wheelock Large Frame Double Action Percussion Revolver in .30 Caliber, made circa the late 1850s in Worcester, Massachusetts. Only 500 of these revolvers thought made in all of the large frame variants. This is a very nice example of a transitional revolver, linking Allen’s earlier pepperboxes—revolvers in which each chamber in the cylinder has its own barrel—with his later revolvers that featured a single barrel and what we now consider a conventional cylinder. Ethan Allen was a prolific inventor and businessman as well as a true family man, investing and partnering with a nephew in a New York sporting goods retailer, hiring another brother-in-law, Thomas Wheelock, who was eventually made a partner, and similarly hiring and later making partner his two sons-in-law Sullivan Forehand and Henry Wadsworth. This revolver would have been made early in the Allen & Wheelock era which ran from 1856 through 1865. This is one of the very scarce early models with the threaded cylinder pin (the barrel unscrews easily to allow access), along with excellent markings including a deep, crisp cylinder scene depicting hunting dogs giving chase to deer. The hammer is marked with Allen’s 1845 patent date. The cylinder is 1-5/8 inches in length as opposed to his medium or small frame revolvers. The overall condition is very good. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-5/8 inches. Caliber: .30 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1100 #190485 SOLD Antique: Yes |
