U.S. Robert Johnson Model 1836 Pistol Converted to Percussion
Description: Very nice US Model 1839 mfg by Robert Johnson. Lock is stamped "U.S. R. JOHNSON MIDDN CONN 1838". Barrel is 8-1/2", which seems to be standard. Blade front sight with dish rear sight, swivel ramrod. This .54 caliber smoothbore has been converted from flint to percussion. Less than 20,000 units were manufactured by Robert Johnson. Barrel has inspection marks of JCS/P with an additional B on the lower right side near the breach.Stock is marked with 14 just above the lock. The Model 1836 was a highly respected design and the standard issue handgun of the Mexican-American War many saw use in American Civil War.
