ANTEBELLUM Antique MASS ARMS Adams & Kerr .36 NAVY
Description: ANTEBELLUM Antique MASS ARMS Adams & Kerr .36 NAVY 1 of Only 1,000 Manufactured Here we present an antique Massachusetts Arms Co. Adams Patent Navy Double Action Revolver, manufactured circa 1858. Only about 1,000 of these were produced. The US government purchased about 600 of that number when the Civil War started. Robert Adams is credited with patenting the first successful double action revolver in 1851. The Adams revolvers were initially double action only. They were well-received among professionals in the 1850s and served with the British East India Company, with British military officers, and were eventually popular among officers in the South during the American Civil War in the early 1860s, imported from Europe. The top of the frame is marked “MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS”. The left side of the frame is marked “ADAMS PATENT/MAY 3, 1858”. The ejector is marked “KERR’S PATENT/APRIL 14, 1857”. The right side of the frame is marked “PATENT/JUNE 3, 1856”. This revolver comes in a very nice period case with a full set of accoutrements, including a tin of Eleys percussion caps, small bag shaped metal powder flask, .36 caliber bullet mold, small nipple wrench, case key, and sundry lead bullets for display. The inside of the case is labeled “FREDERICK J. SMITH & CO./PATENTEES/MANUFACTURERS OF GUNS/RIFLES AND PISTOLS/CONTRACTORS FOR ARMS & MILITARY ACCOUTREMENTS/BIRMINGHAM”. Green felt lining. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The walnut grips are in good shape. The bore is dark with visible rifling. The action is strong but the cylinder must currently be turned by hand. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: .36 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3775 #7458 SOLD Antique: Yes |
